Growing Together for Tomorrow
A Community-Focused Expansion
Our Expansion Vision
Creating a Community-Centered Learning Space
Our goal is to transform Wildwood Environmental Academy’s campus into a hub for learning and recreation that benefits both our students and the broader community. This vision includes creating interactive spaces— such as a greenhouse, butterfly habitat, prairie, nature trails, and a STEM-focused play area—that foster a deep connection to the environment. Through this expansion, we aim to nurture our students’ curiosity and provide our neighbors and friends with hands-on learning opportunities that promote environmental awareness and engagement.
A Three-Phase Plan for Growth
Our expansion will unfold in three carefully planned phases, each designed to progressively enhance our campus and community resources. With each phase, we will open more interactive, accessible spaces that align with our educational mission and offer enriching experiences for the community surrounding WEA. This phased approach ensures that each addition is thoughtfully integrated into our campus, creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment for all.
Student Benefit
Enhanced Learning and Recreational Spaces
Students, families, and the community will have access to new, dynamic learning and recreational areas, including a STEM-focused accessible playground, greenhouse, outdoor classroom, butterfly habitat, prairie, and nature trails. These place-based learning spaces are designed to inspire curiosity and foster hands-on learning experiences.
The expansion enables us to align our curriculum with updated learning standards, further enriching our environment and STEM-focused education. These enhanced programs are tailored to engage students in deeper exploration and understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Improved Campus Environment and Safety
Campus upgrades, including a renovated parking lot, with a focus on creating a safer and more efficient drop off and pick up zone.
Access to Certified NASA/GLOBE Educators
With NASA/GLOBE certified educators on staff, students gain real-world scientific skills through environmental data collection and analysis. Their contributions to NASA/GLOBE research cultivate a passion for STEM and provide a tangible connection to global environmental science initiatives.
These new resources and opportunities allow WEA students to experience a well-rounded education that bridges the gap between classroom learning and the world around them.
Community Benefit
Engaging Greenhouse Programs
The new greenhouse will host community-centered events beyond the classroom, such as annual initiatives to support food security and inspire local families to explore home gardening.
STEM-Centered Playground for All Ages
Our accessible, STEM-focused playground will provide a safe and inclusive recreational space for our community, encouraging both play and hands-on science exploration.
Community Nature Trails and Prairie Access
The addition of nature trails and a prairie will offer opportunities for recreation and environmental learning, inviting the public to enjoy time outdoors while engaging with local ecosystems through citizen science projects and nature-based activities.
Artistic and Environmental Connections
Art murals and signage integrated across campus will deepen
the bond between art and the environment, offering a visually pleasing, cohesive educational experience.
Partnerships with Local Organizations
By creating these spaces, WEA opens the door to collaboration with local businesses, organizations, and nonprofits, enhancing local environmental efforts and fostering a strong community network around sustainability and conservation.
Through these initiatives, Wildwood Environmental Academy’s expanded campus will become a vibrant community resource, promoting environmental awareness, healthy recreation, and inclusive learning opportunities for all.
